29 Products That'll Help You Feel More Responsible But Take Almost No Effort At All

    For some low-stress, low-obligation adulting.

We hope you love the products we recommend! All of them were independently selected by our editors. Just so you know, BuzzFeed may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

    1. An alarm clock to wake you up with a relaxed, gradual sunrise, the way all of our bodies ~evolved~ to wake up, so you actually WANT to get out of bed in the morning. If gimmicky, loud, fight-or-flight alarms have failed you in the past, maybe something chill is what you've needed all along.

    Amazon

Just because you're a little lazy (or have trouble waking up to a regular alarm) doesn't necessarily mean you need the loudest alarm on the planet. If you're considering getting the more expensive version, definitely read this Amazon review, by someone who's owned it for five full years with no problems!

Promising review: "Oh my goodness! I bought this for my husband to replace an old school super annoying nuclear-level alarm clock which he would repeatedly snooze six or seven times. THIS IS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER GIVEN AS A GIFT. I didn't know my mornings could begin so peacefully! I am GENTLY woken by the light before it reaches it's brightest setting, and then the chirping birds sounds are so real. I thought they were singing outside my window at first! Now I don't mind when my husband hits the snooze, 'cause those birds are lovely! Makes dragging myself out of bed great!" —Amazon Customer

Get one with 4.0/5 stars on Amazon (and a sunset feature to help you fall asleep, as well as the gradual wake-up sunrise, and several alarm sound options like the birds) for $104.59. Or get one with 3.7/5 stars (but only the sunrise feature, no sunset, and only a "beep" alarm sound) for $49.99.

    2. The Five-Minute Journal, which uses ~science~ to encourage a positive perspective on everyday life. It just might help you both a) get to sleep at the time you actually intend because it can curb those racing thoughts you can't dispel the moment your head hits the pillow and b) get more done during the day because you're in a happier, better mood.

    Julia Reinstein / Instagram: @juliareinstein

Basically, it takes a few questions that psychology knows help people out, and has you run through those each and every day, complete with an inspirational quote. Every morning, there's a space to jot down three things you're grateful for, three things that will "make today great", and a ~positive affirmation~ (which could simply be what one BuzzFeeder who reviewed the Five-Minute Journal called a "one-sentence pep talk"). At night, there are lines to write down three amazing things from the day, plus two things that would have made the day better. It may not be a true replacement for therapy, but it's a great tool.

Promising review: "The journal is a simple yet effective way to carve out time to begin and end your day on a high note. You are encouraged to write in your journal first thing when you wake up and I always find myself excited to start my day and begin to follow through with my intentions. At night, a quick question about how you could have made today even better allows you to write out the one thing that is racing through your mind and I found that it helps me sleep better as I’m not dwelling on it all night. A few minutes for an entire day of positivity and gratitude!" —Amazon Customer

Get it on Amazon for $22.95.

If you want more structured help for your anxiety, I'd also look at The Cognitive Behavioral Workbook For Anxiety, $23.26 on Amazon, although it will probably take more emotional work. I also recommend BuzzFeed's tips to find a therapist and how to start therapy.

    3. Some Olly restful sleep gummies because they pack melatonin, l-thenanine, chamomile, and lemon balm (which, with their combined powers, can help boost your natural sleep hormones and help you feel relaxed, letting you actually fall asleep *at bedtime* / when you get in bed) into a tasty piece of candy.

    @ollynutrition / instagram.com

BTW, some Amazon reviewers report their gummies arriving melted, so if you live somewhere hot, consider finding these at a local store, instead.

Promising review: "I've tried other sleep products like the sleep drinks and other gummies but I keep coming back for these! They've worked the best out of any of the others I've tried! I fall asleep fast and stay asleep for the whole night. I also wake up feeling great! No hangover feeling at all!" —Jaime Arnold

Get a jar of 50 gummies from Amazon for $12.88 (also available in two larger sizes).

    amazon.com

Promising review: "This year I have been attending medical school interviews all over the country. I have ONE suit that I do not have the money to continuously dry clean between interviews. I bought these to keep with me when traveling so my suit remains pressed and fresh. I typically spray it and do not hot iron it (as it's time consuming and I have other things to worry about on interview day like answer prep and transportation). Really does what it says. It's great to keep clothes crisp and nice smelling, especially if you have a garment that wrinkles easily and you don't feel like ironing before each wear." —Taylor

Get a pack of two bottles on Amazon for $13.94.

    5. A weekly AM/PM pill organizer with removable daily compartments, so you can discreetly slip each day's doses in your pocket or purse. That way, you're more likely to actually to y'know, take them when your phone beeps to remind you, and they won't be at home, forgotten on your counter.

    Amazon, amazon.com

Promising review: "What can I say about a beloved four-dollar pill planner that hasn't been said already? I mean, it's really hard to follow the amazing reviews that have come before mine -- "Holds pills...It is blue AND purple...When closed, it stays closed...When open, it stays opened...Finally, a place to keep emergency Goldfish Crackers without being judged by other adults," and many more gems. Suffice it to say, I'm late to this party. I will only add that this thing will hold more pills than it seems. It is well-constructed and easy for anyone to use. The pop-out option turns out to be very helpful." —LavaJuice

Get it on Amazon for $7.99.

    6. A toilet gel that you can stamp just under the rim to clean the bowl each and every time it's flushed, keeping your commode sparkling clean for up to 10 months in a row, no need to scrub regularly.

    Scrubbing Bubbles / youtube.com, Amazon

All you have to do is re-stamp as needed. If you can't imagine not using your toilet brush, you can use the small remaining bit of gel to scrub down the bowl before applying more. I used this in college and can personally attest it really does work!

Promising review: "We have hard water so if I go too long not cleaning the toilet, we get the dark water ring. Whenever I use these we don't get that dark water ring in the toilet. They also smell great!" —madebymajic

    amazon.com

It works on both finished and natural woods, including wood floors.

Promising review: "Our paneling and cabinets were looking rough. We have two dogs that jumped up and scratched places, we also had an area that was damaged by water spots where our dog bowls were, and several other areas that were just worn from heavy traffic. This stuff was like a magic eraser for water spots, scratches, scuffs, and any other blemish. We simply wiped the product on with a paper towel and let is sit for 20 minutes before wiping it off with a clean towel. Everything looks brand new. I'm buying a couple more so we can finish our cabinets and wood paneling. We're so glad we found this product." —Kris

Get a bottle on Amazon for $8.34.

FYI, if you're facing much damage that's a little worse than that, you might want to try their other (also well-reviewed!) product, called Restore-A-Finish, first; it does more to hide minor scratches, white heat rings, deep water marks, and stuff like that. The two products are actually made to be used together! Get that on Amazon for $10.99.

    8. Glossier's Invisible Shield — it's a water-based serum sunscreen that smoothly glides onto your skin for seamless and translucent sun protection, because in order to actually wear a sunscreen every day (which is v. important!) you have to *like* how it feels on your skin.

    Glossier

It's SPF 35, and you'd apply it as a last step in your skincare routine (if you have one), right before you put on any makeup! Note that it's not water resistant.

Promising review: "I have never really used many SPF products in the past, because I thought they would clog my pores. This product does not, and leaves my skin feeling nice and smooth. This is great for me especially because my skin can burn up easily. If you are not looking for a heavy, thick sunscreen, this is the perfect. Also smells amazing!" —Gigi

Get it from Glossier for $25.

    amazon.com, amazon.com

Best for those pets who have figured out how to trick their way into getting dinner TWICE, if they ask the kids at six and mom at nine.

Promising review: "Awesome product! There are four of us that were working together to feed the dogs. It simplified everything because I no longer have to text to see if anyone had fed them every morning. Now I just to see if it's green and if it's not, I feed them and indicate it. We all love it so much!" —Toni Deegan

Get it on Amazon for $9.95.

    10. A foaming garbage disposal cleaner that you simply drop in, run a little water, then let its fizz reach down into the depths of your disposer, ridding it of any built-up slime and grossness so you don't have to get your hands dirty.

    amazon.com

Note that it's best if your garbage disposal's just generally smelly or dirty and not actually clogged — if it's clogged, definitely call a plumber.

Promising review: "After seeing it say it only takes two minutes (mine was closer to four) I thought there was no way it would work. But I can literally hear how much easier the disposal spins. I can see the metal which used to be black. I'm in an apartment where it has probably never been cleaned. I didn't even know the second sink drain was white until this. It had a layer of brown gunk. Simply amazing, I'm shocked how well this stuff works." —J. Peace

Get a pack of four on Amazon for $6.21.

    11. A rapid egg cooker because it lets you cook two scrambled/poached eggs *or* half a dozen hard-boiled eggs to perfection, so you can actually like, eat a healthy-ish breakfast (or even meal-prep a few!) without spending ages over a hot stove.

    Amazon

Promising review: "This is the best kitchen appliance I have bought in a long time! Super easy and quick to use. I have a busy schedule and I make egg salad a LOT to take with me...this saves me SO much time and effort. Set it and forget it, but the super loud continuous buzzer/alarm will NOT let you forget it, which is a nice safety design. Takes exactly 16 mins to boil eggs and they are perfect. They're also REALLY easy to peel! I've never peeled eggs so easily before. This little contraption is also pretty small and stores easily. I have not used it for the omelettes or to poach eggs yet, but I do plan to in the future. We make eggs Benedict once in a while and poaching is a mess if you're not a pro! Overall this product is wonderful!" —Jaime Bosworth

    14. A box of dishwasher cleaning tablets so you can disband the limescale and mineral buildup preventing your dishes from actually getting as clean as possible, but all you have to do is put it in your dishwasher's detergent dispenser, press the "run" button, and walk away.

    amazon.com

Promising review: "Works extremely well. We haven't done any cleaning on our dishwasher in five years, and the sliding dish trays were tough to pull out or push in, there was detergent build up all over the inside, and there was a milky film on all our cups. I bought this, ran the dishwasher with two tablets while it was empty, and the difference was astounding. There was still some build up and I figured it would require another cycle, so I popped another two tablets in, ran the machine a second time, and now it looks and sounds brand new. No more film on the glasses, no more dirty dishes from clogged sprayers, no more odors, or build up around the door seals." —Martoune

Get a pack of six tablets on Amazon for $5.20.

    15. A pet hair removing–roller so you can pick up basically every last bit of shedding your furry friend's always leaving in their wake from any fabric surface with a quick, simple brush-brush-brush. amazon.com

Because it doesn't rely on adhesive paper, you only have to buy it once and use it forever — cleaning the hair off the brush when it gets clogged, of course!

Promising review: "We live in a household that contains two humans, two dogs, and two cats. It's a real Noah's Ark furnished with a black sectional couch. Our dogs hate the vacuum so much so they will attack it even before we power it on. This makes the task of cleaning our couch extremely unpleasant and nearly impossible. Thanks to Chom Chom, we no longer have this problem! With a simple, quick, SOUNDLESS sweep, we're able to keep our couch pet-hair-free in blissful peace. This tool does an amazing job picking up pet hair but not so much with crumbs. We were so impressed, we gifted these as Christmas presents for all of our pet-loving friends." —Magpie

Promising review: "I've used Method shower cleaner for ages — I have a glass shower door, and all I have to do is spray this after my shower, and it keeps the glass sparkling clean. No need to wipe it down or squeegee it. Saves me a TON of time. I am thrilled this is a 'green" product, and the bottles are 100% recycled plastic." —Eileen Finn

Get it on Amazon: two bottles via Prime for $14.27, or one bottle from Prime Pantry for $2.98.

    17. A pack of fizzing tablets for easily deep cleaning even the most built-up layers of coffee and tea stains. They're like an ultra-powerful bath bomb for your stainless and plastic travel mugs, that only require you to drop 'em in and let them sit for a little bit.

Promising review: "I seriously can't believe how well these little tablets work. I had the most disgusting HydroFlask coffee mug, there was an impenetrable layer of black sludge. It grossed me out so much that I bought another mug to replace it. Eventually they both got black inside, so I tried these little magic tablets. I let one sit in each of my mugs for an hour or two, and the black sludge rinsed out COMPLETELY, without even scrubbing. They look brand new. No weird smell or taste afterward, either. AMAZING." —Amazon Customer

Promising review: "Wow! I would give this 10 stars if I could. We've had issues for a few years with the caulking behind the handle of our kitchen faucet turning black from mildew. We've scrubbed with what seems like a million different products, with no luck. We were actually just talking about ripping out the caulking and doing a total replacement. But, my husband saw this online the other day and decided to order it. Almost immediately when he applied it, you could see it was starting to work. We left it on overnight and the black is COMPLETELY GONE! It's incredible. 1000% worth the (small) investment." —Nicole D.

Get it on Amazon for $12.99.

    20. Some produce saver containers because they really will keep all kinds of fruits and veggies — like berries, spinach, lettuce, bell peppers — day-one fresh for nearly two full weeks. That way you actually have time to eat everything you bought at the grocery store, even if other things in life get in the way of your eating plans.

    Natalie Brown / BuzzFeed

Idk about you, but I really dislike having to throw out food, especially if it's fresh produce I thought I'd have plenty of time to eat when I bought it. I own these, and I basically plan my eating around them: because I live alone, it can sometimes take me a full two weeks to finish a big bag/box of spinach. This means I minimize my waste and can feel like I'm being responsible with my wallet + all the water, energy, and work that went into growing and processing and transporting that spinach! Oh and yes, these really do work; I use them (and run 'em through the dishwasher) all the time.

Promising review: "I bought strawberries and then I forgot about them. I found them in the back of the refrigerator almost TWO WEEKS later, and they were still good. The real miracle is how long it keeps zucchini; again, these miracle containers have kept it fresh for close to two weeks now. I've kept cut lettuce, cut cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, cucumbers, zucchini, sliced bell peppers, strawberries, blackberries, cut jicama, and carrots in these containers. I've had fantastic results with all of them." —Laura

They come in a variety of sizes on Amazon: get a set of two (one blueberry size and one lettuce size) for $18.93 or a set of three (one strawberry size and two lettuce size) for $26.99.

Promising review: "This stuff is great. I had never cleaned my brushes before (gross, I know) and this stuff got them so clean so fast. I didn't even remember most brushes were two-toned because they were all makeup colored for so long. I can't believe the nastiness that came off my brushes. I was putting all that old stuff all over my face!" —Echo

Get it on Amazon for $5.03.

    22. A pack of four silicone straws so you can skip the plastic (and the flimsy paper ones) whether you're at work, out to dinner, or at the movie theater. Because they come with a holding case for both the cleaning brush and each straw, it won't be a pain to keep on you at all times, and when you're done using it, you can simply rinse it out in a bathroom sink, stick it back in its case, and take it home for a more thorough cleaning.

    Amazon

If cutting down on single-use products isn't responsible, I don't know what is! Yes, they're also dishwasher safe, although if you drink a smoothie you may need to use the cleaning brush to really get all those strawberry seeds out.

Promising review: "My son was begging me for a reusable straw, but I did not want metal. I came across this and liked it for a durability and how easy it is to clean. This is a cute product with a great carry case — my son said it reminds him of the AirPods lol. Straw works well, both end openings are large enough for smoothies or shakes. The one con for me: they're not sturdy for cup tops with prongs (like Starbucks). It gets squished, but then I just bend one of the prongs and the straw works perfectly again! :)" —Janene M. Smith

Get the pack of four (including four carrying cases and four collapsible cleaning tools) on Amazon for $13.99.

    23. A garment bag designed specifically to filter out any microplastics your polyester or blended clothes *before* they get rinsed down the drain and become one with the Earth's water system. And all that's required of you = to stick your dirty clothes in it before you wash 'em.

    Reformation, @stopmicrowaste / instagram.com

It may seem like an ordinary delicates bag, but it's made with a very fine mesh that lets water and soap in, but won't let loose fibers out (even the tiniest ones). Synthetic fabrics = things like nylon, acrylic, polyester, spandex, rayon, and modal. Check your clothing's garment tags to find out what you have!

(And yes, the number one way to completely cut your clothings microplastic pollution is to buy and wear only natural fabrics but those can get expensive AND you have every right to love the clothes you love, no matter what fabric they're made from. Even more so now that you can get a bag that helps!)

Promising review: "I bought a Guppyfriend a little under a year ago and haven’t looked back. The bag itself is durable and shows no signs of wear, even at the ends of the zipper. You can see the microfibers accumulate after the first half a dozen to dozen washes, which I find comforting (this is actually a solution) and discomforting (how many people have no idea washing their clothes is contributing to pollution in our oceans?).

The only critique I have is I wish the bag was bigger so I could fit more clothes per load, and thus use less energy and water. But one step at a time, yes? An affordable, easily implemented lifestyle change and solution to one of the many ways our everyday lives are slowly eroding the health of the planet. Purchase yours today and be part of the solution!" —Rachel0122

Get it from REI, Patagonia, or Reformation for $29.75.

    youtube.com

Promising review: "I am very satisfied with this product. It is very easy to use and makes folding a breeze. My closet shelves are now neat and tidy and I can find items easier than before. The downside is that I no longer have an excuse for not folding my laundry right away! ;)" —J Smith

Get it on Amazon for $23.99.

    25. Amazon

Plus when it comes time to send cards for birthdays, it reminds me every. single. morning. in the month leading up to it, until it actually happens!

Note that it's described as magnetic, but that means the suface of the board is — not that it sticks to your fridge. If you want to mount it to your fridge (or a wall tbh), some Command Strips could do the job quickly and easily!

Promising review: "We love our dry erase board. It’s the perfect size and really pretty. We put all our family events on it because my husband always forgot what was happening when, and asked for one! He also actually reads it! The right side of the board leaves enough room for me to write the baby’s schedule for babysitters. Still haven’t stuck it anywhere so right now it’s just propped up against the wall. Love it!" —CommonSense

Get it on Amazon for $15.29 (also available with a silver frame).

    27. A Smart Funnel so you can finally get rid of / recycle all those basically empty bottles that have queued up in a "reject" line on your counter as they've slowly run out of product.

    Amazon

You can even use it with a single bottle, to balance that bottle upside-down.

Promising review: "This little set up is great! I don’t splurge on a lot but I love my Philosophy body wash and Unite shampoo/conditioner. Needless to say I try everything to get every little drop but ended up frustrated having to store the bottles upside down only to have them fall off the ledge in the shower and scare the hell out of me or my family. Saw this and decided to give it a go. When I would give up previously and throw away a bottle with product inside my heart hurt, but with this gadget I get at least five to eight more showers from my body wash alone. It works on the large pump dispenser bottles as well. Easy to clean just throw it on the top rack in the dishwasher. —doppelganger

Get it from Amazon for $9.99.

    28. A steam mop because it picks up basically every speck of dirt and grime on your sealed hard floors using only heated water, and all you have to do is leisurely push it around for a bit. (Oh, and that steam provides 99.99% sanitation, too.)

    amazon.com

Promising review: "I love this mop. It's so easy to use. You have to pump it to get steam, but it works with the push and pull as you clean. I love that I get super clean sanitary floors with no chemicals and it takes way less time. No dragging the bucket out. Just slap on a cleaning cloth and go. I will never go back to a traditional mop. And the floor dries very quickly! (However if you're looking for something to scrub the grout I don't think this is for you.)" —Amazon Customer

Get it from Amazon for $59.99.

    29. A universal fit–hair catcher for your drain that will stop any gross clogs from building slowly over time. Which means you (or those you share a bathroom with) can freely rinse any shed hair to the drain with no worries, instead of sticking clumps of hair to the wall and leaving 'em there for far too long.

    amazon.com, amazon.com

If you live somewhere with a more humid climate (or tbh just a humid bathroom in general), it's probably a good idea to rinse it off and lay it on its side to dry after every few showers or so, to prevent mold — btw, that goes for every hair catcher out there!

Promising review: "I've been very impressed! It's tall enough to fit easily over my pop-up drain and the weighted top keeps it in place, even with my faucet running almost directly on it. I have medium-length hair and seem to shed almost as much as my cat, but the drain protector catches it all and is easily removed and tossed away. Best of all, in my case, the silicone hasn't held onto mildew or mold — I have been able to spray and wipe away any grime with very little effort. It looks like this drain protector will last a very long time." —Suneimi

Get it from Amazon for $9.99.
